Former Member and Speaker pro Tempore, California Assembly, and Former Mayor of Healdsburg

From 2014 to 2024 Jim Wood represented California’s 2nd Assembly District in the state legislature, following two terms as Mayor of Healdsburg. As chair of the Assembly Health Committee for eight years, he spearheaded major initiatives to reform the health care system and was the author of legislation that created the California Office of Health Care Affordability, an agency dedicated to analyzing cost drivers and increasing transparency in the health care market. He has lived in Northern California since 1987, when he opened his family dental practice in Cloverdale and has worked to make local government more effective through reorganizing city departments to increase efficiency, balancing the budget, and streamlining the building permit process. His priorities have included health care, economic development, environmental protection, and fiscal reform.
