Ph.D. Professor of Psychology at Stanford University

Brian Knutson

Professor of Psychology at Stanford University

A Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience, Dr. Knutson and his laboratory explore the brain basis of emotion (affective neuroscience). Their findings have identified neural predictors of choice (neuroeconomics), as well as the neural markers of several psychiatric disorders (neurophenomics), including addiction. Their highly cited research (> 20K) has been funded by the National Institute of Health and the National Science Foundation, has been published in top scientific journals (e.g., Science, Nature), and has received extensive press coverage. He is currently leading the Neurochoice Initiative with Drs. Malenka and Humphreys, which focuses on applying cutting-edge neuroscience techniques to predict and reduce relapse to substance abuse.
