Bonnie Halpern-Felsher

Marron and Mary Elizabeth Kendrick Professor in Pediatrics II at Stanford University

A Professor of Pediatrics with courtesy appointments in Epidemiology & Population Health and Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, Dr. Halpern-Felsher examines cognitive, psychosocial and environmental predictors of adolescent and young adult substance use. While the majority of her research has focused on the perceptions and misperceptions of substance-related risks and benefits that predict substance use, she also examines how marketing and counter marketing influence such perceptions and ultimately the initiation and continuation of substance use. Her research informs policy at the city, state ,and federal level, and her REACH Lab has developed and implemented numerous evidence- and school-based prevention and intervention curricula aimed at reducing and preventing adolescent and young adult substance use. She is currently funded by the NIH, TRDRP, the California Department of Education, New York’s Office of Addiction Services and Supports, and many others.
